A local disability advocate says progress is being made to get busses running in Lucas.
Lucas resident Heidi Biggin, who is legally blind, says the suburb has an area of about 7 square kilometres that has no public transport.
“We’ve got the Alfredton number 10 bus that stops at Colman Plaza, [but] there’s nothing beyond that,” she says.
“There’s a school bus that goes out to Cardigan, but it’s [for] school children [who are] signed up through a private program.”
“People are seeing busses in Lucas and thinking there’s public transport, but that’s a private school bus.”
A petition on the issue was presented to the transport minister last week.
