The RACV has released its ‘My Country Road’ road safety survey, with a section of the Western Highway coming under fire.
The portion of the highway from Trawalla to Beaufort was sixth on its ‘most responses’ list for being in poor condition with potholes.
The same section rated highly on its ‘safety concerns’ table.
Top road issues statewide included potholes, dangerous driving by others and narrow roads and lanes.
Head of Policy at the RACV, James Williams, said an extraordinary number of people identified the Western Highway as an issue.
“Clearly this is a major freight route, and of course motorist route for many people in Victoria, so Western Highway is certainly a highlight for us,” he said.
“We’re encouraging the Victorian Government to take a close look at the merits of a bypass at Beaufort to resolve this issue.”
