The CEO of Weld Australia, who spoke locally at a Commerce Ballarat event last week about buying locally, says new wind farm approvals are a win for renewable’s but not for Australian industry.
The peak body wants to see the turbines built here from Australian steel and is lobbying politicians to make the change.
Geoff Crittenden says the wind-towers we see around Ballarat are not made here.
“I think a huge likelihood is an understatement, it’s absolutely certain that they’re made overseas and it’s certain that they are made with overseas steel.”
“There is some hope, I’ve been working with Senator Tim Ayres who is the Minister for Future Made in Australia and his view is we could have 100% Aussie steel and 100% Aussie fabrication for all wind towers and mono pole transmission towers in Australia,” Mr. Crittenden said.
