The Chief Executive of the Committee for Ballarat says we should look to the UK city of Sunderland for inspiration when it comes to coping with population growth.
The population of Ballarat is expected to surge towards 146,000 by 2036.
Michael Poulton says we can learn a lot from the English port city.
“There’s no coal mines left in that region, they have very little ship building left in that region, and they’ve really transformed into a digital economy up there,” he said.
“Population growth has been substantial; they’ve had some really challenging social issues to deal with over the generations and [they have] really well-planned vision with terrific infrastructure and significant investment from big business, but also from government.”
