A small group of retired Ballarat teachers, who now do a lot of kayaking, are currently lobbying council to have a safe, all-inclusive kayak launching platform installed at Lake Wendouree.
They’ve started a Facebook page questionnaire to gauge how many people might use the facility, which is thought to have a price tag of $130,000.
Organiser Arthur Morvell, who is in his late seventies, says he believes a large section of the community would benefit from it.
“On the Facebook page, All Abilities Access to Paddling on Lake Wendouree, we’ve had lots of followers, I think we are up to about 180 people who say they would use that facility.
The group met with Central Ward Councillor Samantha McIntosh this week to strengthen their case.
