Grampians Health has urged the community to take care with the real risk of Thunderstorm Asthma conditions tomorrow.

For people who have asthma or hay fever the storms and pollen can trigger severe asthma symptoms.

Chief Strategy and Regions Officer Dr. Rob Grenfell says keeping an eye on the pollen forecast is a good idea.

“We had a particularly catastrophic asthma period at one stage in Melbourne but also more broadly across regional areas such as Geelong, Bendigo and Ballarat as well.”

“A lot of that has got to do with the pollen load and sometimes when there is burning off, we have particulate pollution in the air as well,” Dr. Grenfell said.

Thunderstorms are forecast again for Ballarat tomorrow with today’s pollen count listed as low in the central area.
