Local contractors are being encouraged by the State Government to put their hand up to remediate the old Ballarat saleyards site.
Spring Street says the open tender process will get underway this month after the completion of a detailed site investigation.
The area had been flagged as an athlete’s village for the Commonwealth Games before they were cancelled.

The government says the works will allow for the creation of a new jobs precinct and possibly more homes.
In a statement, Member for Wendouree, Juliana Addison, says the remediation of the former saleyards site is an exciting step towards unlocking its full potential.
