Ballarat police say they’re applying a zero-tolerance approach to drinking alcohol in the troubled Little Bridge Street bus stop precinct.
Signage will change soon, clearly stating consumption of alcohol in the area is illegal – with hefty fines applying.
Inspector Jason Templar, leading Operation Praesidium which is designed to stamp out the trouble, says the move is part of a range of measures.
“You’ll see some new signs in the next few weeks, and I guess the biggest change is it’ll include the penalty on the sign so there’s no excuse when people see those signs what the outcome will be if they’re caught with open liquor in that area,” he said.
