An online petition has been launched calling for Ballarat council to allow for the restoration and painting of the former Palace Hotel building at 101-105 Lydiard Street North.
The council have reportedly refused to allow it to be painted, with the issue being challenged at a VCAT hearing in August.
The petition, started by building owner Timothy Stevens, says restoring the iconic structure will not only preserve its heritage but enhance the visual charm of the community.
Printed QR codes to the petition have been stuck to the building’s windows.
The City of Ballarat says they respect the applicant has exercised their right to appeal the planning permit decision to VCAT.
They say until the matter has been heard and a decision by the tribunal has been made, they decline to comment further.
