Despite the North Gardens turning into a dust bowl at the Red Hot Summer Tour earlier this year, the City of Ballarat says it has no immediate plans to green the area.
The council says temporary irrigation would cost $35,000, and at this stage nothing is budgeted.
However, Cr. Samantha McIntosh says a green North Gardens would enhance an underutilised area.
“I would absolutely support the greening of that area,” she said.
“There’s a whole heap of other items that come to the budget and you’ve got to try and balance that. However, a green North Gardens makes every single bit of sense to me.”
“I don’t believe we use that space enough. There’s the old sound shell, there’s lots of opportunity and potential.”
