The Ballarat and Grampians Community Legal Service has launched an information campaign, in an effort to make sure victims of family violence understand their legal rights.
Called ‘Ask for a Lawyer,’ the initiative aims to help victims navigate their options.
CEO of the service, Narelle Laing, says seeking advice from a lawyer gets better outcomes.
“Our community has experienced significant rates of family violence, and often that requires people to attend court for intervention orders,” she said.
“We have noticed that many people do not seek legal advice when they’re at court, and we do believe victims of family violence do achieve better outcomes if they’re getting that legal advice.”
