New campaign aims to change tourist perceptions of Ballarat

Tourism Midwest Victoria will be looking to change visitors’ perception of the region, with the organisation officially launching their new tourism campaign today.

Called ‘Brilliantly Unexpected’, the new identity will showcase the Ballarat area and its attractions across multiple platforms.

Over the next few days, the organisation will reach out to people at Melbourne Central, with a new competition offering local prizes to visitors of their site.

Chair of Tourism Midwest Victoria, John Pandazopolous, says they expect to get hundreds of thousands of new visitors.

“Our research has shown that for some type of customers, they don’t know us well, yet when visitors come they say we’re just ‘brilliantly unexpected’, so that’s why we’re going with that campaign,” he said.

“For visitors that are mostly from Melbourne, they come here, and they say ‘wow, this is not the Ballarat I used to know when I used to come out here as a kid.”
