The Ballarat-based nephew of Australia’s greatest sprinter, Peter Norman, has paid tribute to the 16-year-old who’s just broken his uncle’s 200 metre record.

Queenslander Gout Gout shaving 0.02 seconds off Peter’s time, which has stood since the 1968 Mexico Olympics.

Matt Norman, who is an author and filmmaker, says Gout recently saw his documentary on Peter.

“I set up a meeting with his management and said ‘look, I really need to talk to him about his win,’ and he was more excited to talk to me because he’d seen ‘Salute’ at high school,” he said.

“I was a little bit shocked by that.”

Next up for Matt is a Hollywood blockbuster on his uncle’s story, to be released before the Los Angeles Olympics.
