A local MP is advocating for improvements along notorious road sections in Ballarat’s south.

Over 500 people have signed a Change.org petition calling for the installation of traffic signals at the Finchs and Galway Drive intersections on Ballarat Carngham Road.

Earlier this month, a 6-year-old child died in a car crash at the Finchs Road intersection, with another airlifted to hospital.

Member for Ripon, Martha Haylett, says she has met with the organisers of the petition and agreed with their push to reduce the speed limit in the area.

She says both the Department of Transport and Planning and Victoria Police are currently investigating all aspects of the site.

“There’s going to be even more traffic on those roads in coming years as communities grow even further, so we desperately need to make improvements on those roads,” she said.

“I’ll wait to hear the outcomes of that police investigation with the Department, and then we’ll be advocating very strongly to the Minister about improvements going forward as soon as possible.”
