The gold medal hopes for a Ballarat athletics star have been dashed.
At the high jump qualifying event in Paris last night, Yual Reath reached a height of 2.20m, sitting in joint 11th place with Tomohiro Shinno from Japan.
New Zealand’s Hamish Kerr took out first place with a height of 2.27m.

It was a different story for Ballarat’s Kathyn Mitchell in the javelin.
Qualifying with a distance of 62.40m, she ranked third and will now move onto the finals on Sunday.
