Buninyong ward councillor and Deputy Ballarat Mayor Ben Taylor says not having the Road Nationals Cycling in town this year has left mixed emotions for locals.
A highlight of the event over many years was the road race over the grueling Mt Buninyong circuit.
However, Cr Taylor says some residents liked the cycling whilst others didn’t care too much for it.
“Some of the residents in the middle of Buninyong always kind of dreaded this time of year saying it actually affects their day-to-day life in moving around.”
“But then you’ve got others saying it was just a great event to be part of, to walk down from their houses into the middle of Buninyong and seeing a spectacular event,” Cr. Taylor said.
After 18 years in Ballarat AusCycling made the decision to move the event to Perth in Western Australia, it is on now until Sunday.
