Ballarat cricket great Matt Short has been named the 2024 ambassador of local mental health fundraiser Peach’s Run.

Kicking off November 9th, the event will raise money for the Ballarat Foundation’s James Petrie Fund, supporting mental health related projects in the Ballarat region.

The event is named after much-loved teacher and footballer James ‘Peach’ Petrie, who passed away in 2022 after a mental health battle.

Matt says the event is close to his heart.

“[James’ death] affected some close friends of mine here in Ballarat. I knew him through them and the Waubra Football Club, who my mates played for,” he said.

“It was pretty much purely to show support for them and to try and gain support around the Ballarat region and the exposure that something like this cause needs, and the guys I’m really close with are doing a great job.”

“It’s just something I really wanted to get involved with.”
