The deputy chair of an inquiry into the Commonwealth Games cancellation says it’s one of the worst instances of event management in Victoria.
The final report into the event was handed down on Tuesday, with 62 findings and six recommendations made by the legislative committee.
Joe McCracken, who is also the Liberal Member for Western Victoria, says the inquiry found the State Government had made a litany of errors.
“The report that was used to justify signing on to the Commonwealth Games meant there was a number of different consultants that didn’t have access to good information on the Government’s directive,” he said.
“That resulted in a really poor outcome in the end which cost Victorian taxpayers millions of dollars they’ll never be able to get back.”
Ballarat was set to host the athletics and boxing.
