New data from Kidsafe Victoria has found almost 90 per cent of child car restraints in Ballarat between May and July were incorrectly fitted or used.
Checks of 37 restraints in the city found 17 required adjustments, 15 needed complete refits and one needed to be replaced altogether.
Ballarat isn’t alone, with a check of 6,000 car restraints in Victoria over the same period finding 87 per cent were incorrectly fitted or installed.

Kidsafe’s Melanie Courtney says the risk of life-threatening injury increases by 4 to 6 times when restraints are not installed correctly.
