Over 300 locals have called for a reduced speed limit across the notorious Bailey Street bridge in Clunes.
Member for Ripon, Martha Haylett, launched a petition in July which encouraged the community to support changing the limit from 60 to 40 kilometres an hour, for the safety of drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
Ms. Haylett says many Clunes locals completely avoid the bridge because of the speed.
“Just this year alone, there’s been two near misses,” she said.
“[Tourists] see that 60 kilometre an hour sign and go across the bridge at that speed. It’s extremely dangerous, so that’s why we want to make sure we reduce the speed and show the Minister for Roads [Melissa Horne] and her department there’s a huge ground swell of support for speed reduction in Clunes.”
