The CEO of Basketball Ballarat, Neville Ivey, says he’s not surprised a former Miners superstar was selected for the Australian Olympic team.

Jade Melbourne was one of 28 basketballers selected to play in the national team and one of twelve to make their Olympic debut in Paris.

Mr. Ivey says in Ballarat she was a standout player and also a great leader.

“We were fortunate enough to have Jade play with us in 2022. We’ve been a small part of her journey and [we] like to think we added some value to her basketball craft during her time here with the Miners,” he said.

He says there are current Ballarat Miners players that have Olympic potential, but it’s hard to mention individuals.

“In both our men’s and women’s program we will make finals this year for the first time for a number of years, and we’ve got a number of outstanding players who are knocking on the door of selection at a national level and internationally.”
