Ballarat-bred jockey Michelle Payne has announced she will retire from horse racing at the end of this year’s season.
Whilst renewing her jockey license for the 2023-24 season, Ms. Payne reportedly had not completed the minimum requirement of 24 rides in two years.
Riding Prince of Penzance, the 38-year-old took out the 2015 Melbourne Cup, becoming the first and only female jockey to win the event.

It’s been reported she will now devote her time to training horses.
