Ballarat police are reminding locals that the fire danger period is still active, after a 62-year-old man was charged with allegedly burning off timber and garden waste without a permit.
Officers were called to the Navigators property on Saturday afternoon and interviewed the man, with CFA members extinguishing the fire.
He is expected to appear at the Ballarat Magistrates Court at a later date.
Police and the CFA are reminding locals that starting a blaze during the fire danger period without a lawful excuse or permit is a criminal offence, with Ballarat fire restrictions set to end on May 1st.
They say that at present they are currently attending multiple fires weekly.
