The Federal Government have announced an investment of $1.1 billion towards upgrades of the Western Freeway.
The highway connects Melbourne to Adelaide and is a critical transport route for passengers and freight.
The funds will go towards improving safety and capacity along the freeway between Melton and Caroline Springs, with around 86,000 vehicles travelling across the stretch every day.
Locally, $100 million will also be allocated towards planning and early works to upgrade the Brewery Tap Road freeway intersection in Warrenheip.
Another $6.1 million will go towards two bridge strengthening upgrades between Stawell and the South Australian border.
Speaking to 3BA’s The Big Show this morning, Member for Ballarat, Catherine King, said the freeway is a really important piece of infrastructure for the whole west of the state.
