Four councillors believed to be in Ballarat mayoral race

The race to become Ballarat’s next Mayor is wide open with up to four councillors believed to have expressed an interest in the position.

The make-up of the group for the next four-year term see’s five returning councillors and four new faces.

They’ll vote for both the mayor and deputy position after being sworn-in on Tuesday.

Meantime, Des Hudson says he’s thankful to have the continued support of Sebastopol Ward residents, as the former Mayor goes into his seventh term as a councillor.

Des was first elected in 2002 and is the City of Ballarat’s longest serving councillor post-amalgamation.

He says his commitment will be to continue to try and make Ballarat the best place to live in regional Australia.

“I think wanting to strive and to continue to deliver, it is always about wanting to make Ballarat a better place, a stronger place, a more vibrant place.”

“A place that is open for business, a place that is able to meet the challenges of a growing community,” Mr. Hudson said.
