After a difficult night for residents in the Newtown area, the bushfire threat to communities has been reduced.
Yesterday, a grass fire spread into the Ross Creek State Forest and travelled northerly towards Scarsdale, Ross Creek, Smythesdale and Woodland Drive, with the CFA urging people in the area to leave immediately.
Firefighters are still trying to contain the fire, which is not yet under control, with emergency services remaining in the area.

Strickland and Staffordshire Reef Road are still closed, with smoke and flames visible in nearby communities and on local roads.
