Federation University recorded a $81 million loss in 2023, according to their new annual report.
Recording a significant deficit for the second year in a row, the university has highlighted the financial impacts of a slide in student enrolments and last year’s changes in international student visa arrangements.
Compared to 2022, the report found statewide university enrolments dropped by 137 students in 2023 and TAFE enrolments dropped by 217 enrolments.
This is despite 232 more students enrolling at the university’s Ballarat campuses in 2023, excluding TAFE.
The figures come as protests were held at the Mount Helen campus today over a university announcement that 200 jobs would be axed.
