A Ballarat councillor has welcomed this week’s announcement of a quarter of a million dollars for council to address the issue of family violence in the city.
A recipient of the Free from Violence Local Government Grant scheme, the council will aim to embed family violence prevention and gender equality practices into their programs.
Cr. Belinda Coates says conversations about male violence against women need to continue.
“It really just goes to the heart of the issue that it does need coordinated response from all levels of government and all aspects of communities too,” she said.
“It’s schools, it’s workplaces, it’s sporting clubs, it’s all of those sorts of places where the issue of prevention of male violence does actually need to be addressed.”
