Councillor urges Ballarat to stay resilient after recent tragedies

A Ballarat councillor has urged the community to stay resilient in the wake of troubling times for the region.

The call follows the disappearance and death of Samantha Murphy, major bush fires to the north-west of Ballarat and last week’s tragic death of gold miner, Kurt Hourigan.

Councillor Ben Taylor says we need to support each other during these trying times.

“It’s been a real challenging time for Ballarat. We’ve kind of been in the news for the wrong reasons,” he said.

“As a community we are resilient, but we’ve still got to make sure we look after each other. Make sure we’re okay, come together [and] support each other.”
