The City of Ballarat has agreed to sell a 500 square metre block of land in Newington to one of the city’s most prestigious schools, but at this stage won’t say for how much.
Councillors voted for the sale to Ballarat Clarendon College on Wednesday night, despite at least one resident saying they fear of further encroachment by the school.
Mayor, Cr. Des Hudson, says it’s a balance weighing up the needs of the school and its neighbours.
“Over my 22 years, I’ve seen the school continue to develop its footprint, but we’ve also got to balance it out [by] saying this is a school that is putting out some amazing students,” he said.
It’s a high-level place of learning [but I’m] not saying that should therefore negate residents’ concerns, it is a balance.”
