Committee for Ballarat calls for even state population spread

The Committee for Ballarat says the fundamental principle that 80 per cent of Victoria’s population will live in metro Melbourne needs to be challenged.

Forecasts show that Melbourne could be on track to be home to 8 million people by 2050.

In Ballarat, we could double in size to around 240,000 residents.

The committee’s CEO Michael Poulton says the population needs to be evenly spread.

“10 million in Victoria [with] 8 million people plus living in Melbourne isn’t a great outcome for Melbourne, nor a great outcome for Victoria,” he said.
