Ahead of the federal election next year, Member for Ballarat, Catherine King, has announced she will run for the seat again.

Ms. King first won the seat in 2001 from Liberal member Michael Ronaldson and has been re-elected seven times.

She says each and every day, she’s focused on how she can help people.

“I feel like it’s a new job every single day,” she said.

“I learn something new, I meet new people, I hear about incredible things, I see people at their best and sometimes at their very worst times and providing that service to the community is something I feel is incredibly important.”

It comes as the Liberal Party announced on Friday businessman Wes McKnight had been chosen as their candidate for the next election.

Ms. King says she’s not surprised the announcement has been made so early.

“I don’t think it’s any surprise we’ve got a federal election coming up, the Prime Minister’s been saying that for a while it has to be held before May 2025 [and] as usual, I think they’ll be a field of candidates running here and around the country and I welcome the first of those from the Liberal Party.”
