The Buninyong / Mt Helen Fire Brigade will hold its third open day tomorrow with a very special item on the agenda.
They’ll launch the Merryweather Room which houses The Merryweather, a horse drawn manual firefighting engine dating back to the eighteen hundreds.
CFA volunteer John McLeod says it’s a special bit of equipment.
“It was the first manually operated fire engine that Buninyong had, it came back in 1883.”
“It operated all the way through to the 1930’s, it’s a horse drawn engine and requires 26 people to operate it,” Mr. McLeod said.
The open day at the Buninyong station will start at 11am with an opportunity to ask firefighters about how to best prepare for the upcoming fire season.
