Ballarat’s freshly minted Mayor says she almost didn’t run for a second council term.
Cr. Tracey Hargreaves was sworn-in with all eight other councillors this week and not long afterwards appointed as the cities next Mayor, surprising many.
Mayor Hargreaves said she received some advice from her son that changed her mind.
“I went for a dog walk with my son and I mentioned to him that I won’t be on council anymore, but I hadn’t had that conversation with him.”
“He stopped and went; what mum you’re not going to run, you’re not going to be on council? I think you should.”
Appointed to the Deputy Mayor position was long term councillor Ben Taylor.
The new group of nine councillors features four new faces and will meet for the first time on Wednesday night.
