Champion Ballarat jockey Michelle Payne has called time on her time in the saddle by officially retiring.
Michelle rode a staggering 772 career winners including the famous 2015 Melbourne Cup ride aboard 100-1 chance Prince of Penzance.
She’ll now focus on training from her Ballarat stables with brother Patrick.

“I had no idea of what would happen to my life after winning,” said Michelle on the VRC website.
“I crossed that finishing line and went back to the mounting yard to be interviewed and I still had no idea of the enormity of it. It was an absolute shock.”
Michelle rode her last race in March finishing 5th and says her retirement has been in the planning since May last year.
