Ballarat SES stretched as one footy club looks to move

Yesterday’s wild winds and showers across Ballarat have kept local SES volunteers busy.

They responded to around 20 calls in the 24 hour period, mainly for fallen trees.

Ballarat yesterday afternoon saw two peak gusts of 72Kph.
 
Meantime, the Clunes Football and Netball Club will this weekend at their AGM discuss a complete move.
Their oval and facilities have been swamped by floodwaters for the third time in the past eleven years.

“After several meetings and numerous discussions at committee level we have unanimously agreed that in the best interest of our club’s future, we will examine the possibility of a complete ground relocation,” the club said in a statement.
 
“Our proposal will be in conjunction with other sporting and community organisations in town as well as genuine community consultation.”

Club leaders say a move is crucial to ensure its future prosperity and hope to gain support of the Hepburn Shire.
