Ballarat ‘saturation’ project to combat family violence

The State Government have announced ‘world-leading’ actions to combat family violence in Ballarat.

A four-year model will be implemented in the city to ‘saturate’ anti-violence awareness and action.

The project will bring together schools, sporting clubs and other members of the community to deliver a coordinated approach to ending violence.

The approach has been influenced by research from around the world.

It comes after the Victorian Government announced a $100 million plan to tackle women’s safety on Thursday.

Some of the projects that may be explored in the model include working with local social media influencers to counter harmful attitudes towards women and boosting referral pathways between prevention programs and specialist response services, so locals experiencing violence can get help earlier.

Respect Victoria will work with Ballarat residents to develop and deliver initiatives tailored to the needs of the city.

Speaking at Ballarat High School this morning, Premier Jacinta Allan, says we need to do more.

“We need to make sure that the messages and the cultural change that’s been driven through programs like Respectful Relationships in our schools is reinforced in the workplace, community organisations, in sporting settings and also importantly in social and household settings as well,” she said.
