Ballarat Miners star retires from basketball despite committing to 2025

Ballarat Miners superstar Tyler ‘Rudy’ Rudolph has called time on his professional basketball career.

Over two seasons with the Miners, Tyler’s stellar on-court performances have earnt him back-to-back All-Star 5 honours as well as two Ray Borner MVP’s.

Hailing from North Dakota in the US, Tyler said in a message to fans he’s been really enjoying time with family and can’t wait to cheer the team on from home this season.

“I just want to thank the Ballarat community for welcoming me in and supporting me over the 2 years I was there.”

“I appreciate the club, coaches, teammates, and fans for everything you’ve done for me.”

“As difficult as this decision was, I was lucky enough to call Ballarat home for 2 years,” Tyler said.

Ballarat Basketball CEO Nev Ivey has also reflected on Rudy’s impact.

“Rudy has been a cornerstone of our club over the past two seasons, not just for his extraordinary performances on the court but also for his humility, leadership, and connection with our community,” he said.
