Drivers are being reminded to slow to 40kmh when passing emergency vehicles or face over $900 in fines.
Late last month, Ballarat Highway Patrol officers pulled over a Toyota Corolla on the Western Highway at Bungaree which allegedly passed a police car at an estimated 100-110kmh, despite having its emergency lights on.
The 50-year-old Ballarat man reportedly said he didn’t see the police car, with a breath test allegedly returning a result of .115, almost three times the legal limit.
His car was impounded at a cost of over $1200, and he will be summonsed to appear at the Ballarat Magistrates Court at a later date.
Drivers who fail to slow to 40kmh when passing emergency vehicles can face fines of up to $961.
