The Ballarat Light Car Club is calling on local farmers with some unproductive land to give them a hand and potentially let them lease it.

The club recently received an eviction notice from the City of Ballarat stating that they will no longer be able to lease a site at the Ballarat Airport because of impending runway upgrades.

Wayne Drew, a former President of the club, says they can still keep their clubrooms at the airport, but they’ll have nowhere to hold motorkhanas and autocrosses which he says creates fear for the future of the club.

“We don’t need a big parcel of land, but that 16 hectares has been something that we’ve held tenure over since 1979.”

“It’s been a place where many juniors have learnt to drive, driving a car for the first time and learning those basic real life car control skills,” Mr. Drew said.

The clubs lease will expire on August 31st.
