Brown Hill ward councillor Ted Lapkin says he’ll speak to the cities CEO Evan King after learning that Ballarat’s New Year’s Eve fireworks won’t herald in the new year at midnight.

In a media release this week council says the pyrotechnic display will be held at the family friendly time of 9.30pm only.

Mr. Lapkin, who is originally from the United States, quipped that 9.30pm fireworks certainly wouldn’t be tolerated at Times Square in New York on New Year’s Eve.

The fireworks have previously been a part of Australia Day and Summer Sunday’s events before councillors earlier this year made the decision to move them to New Year’s Eve.
