The Ballarat franchisee of Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD says a lack of charging infrastructure urgently needs to be addressed.
BYD grew sales by 29 per cent last year to overtake Tesla, with Ballarat to get its own standalone dealership from next month.
However, Matt Newey says a charge station shortage is not holding back buyers.
“We have got a long way to go in Australia to provide chargers on significant routes between Melbourne and Sydney [and] Sydney to Brisbane for example so [if] people want to do those [kilometres], they can,” he said.
“If we look at Ballarat in its own right, we need a significant number of chargers in the CBD for people to use on a daily basis.”
