The Chief Executive Officer of the City of Ballarat says the city does not have a vandalism problem, despite yet another senseless act.
The giant Begonia letters on Sturt Street were smashed yesterday morning, on the eve of this year’s festival.
It comes after significant damage was caused to busts in the Prime Ministers Avenue and the botanic gardens floral clock was wrecked not once, but twice.
Evan King says it’s just a very small percentage of the population that wants to destroy things.
“Senseless acts of [a] few shouldn’t be a reflection of our whole community, but clearly at the moment we have some people doing some really destructive things,” he said.
“We work incredibly closely with Victoria Police; we meet with them regularly [and] we work through these issues.”
