Ballarat Highway Patrol officers have ramped up enforcement around 40Kph school zones after two recent accidents, however it appears the safety message is still not getting through to some drivers.
Last week a 59-year-old female from Ballan was detected doing 78Kph in a 40Kph school zone at Warrenheip.
She was hit with a $700 fine and will likely lose her license for 6 months.
In other road safety news, the RACV is reminding Ballarat motorists about the drink driving penalties you may not know about.
The state Government introduced new penalties for drink drivers in October last year.
Every drink driving offender will now pay a hefty fine, lose their license, have to undergo a behaviour change program, have an interlock installed and drive with zero alcohol in their system for three years, once they get their license back.
Drink driving remains one of the most significant contributors to Victoria’s road toll.
