A Ballarat councillor, who also runs the Emergency Department at St. John of God Hospital, says he does have enough energy for another four-year term on council.

Across two combined stints Mark Harris has served for a total of 12 years.

Despite the frustrations of the job Mr. Harris says he’ll put his hand up for the Golden Point ward come October’s elections.

“I’d suggest to anyone who lives in the community, if you’re that welded into it, and I’ve been born and bred here, it’s a good thing to do.”

“It can be endlessly frustrating, it is bureaucracy, I enjoy it and I think I can still contribute,” Cr Harris said.

This year the City of Ballarat will transition from three wards with three councillors in each to a nine-ward single councillor model after a directive from the VEC.
