Beaufort Summer Fest will bring cultures and communities together over food, conversation, music and family fun at the Cyril Callister Museum on Wadawurrung country.
It is part of Forage and Feast, a Central Highlands Growers and Producers event which champions local makers, growers and producers each summer for Commerce Ballarat.
Liza Robinson, event organiser and general manager of the Cyril Callister Museum, which showcases the life, work and legacy of Australian scientist Dr Cyril Callister and his invention Vegemite, said: “Beaufort Summer Fest is the perfect new community food and wine event. It beautifully encompasses our rich culture, history and wonderful local ingredients and brings some good Aussie fun. The festival is a fantastic way to unite us ahead of the January long weekend, honour the remarkable country we live in and show respect to all.”
Summer Fest will launch with a Wadawurrung Welcome to Country (2pm) and feature a jam-packed program of cooking displays, tastings, treats and activities for adults and kids.
Wadawurrung Nursery specialists will talk about Caring for Country and plants to add to your vege garden (3pm).
Kids can join artist Jenna Oldaker for tote bag painting and conversation about Wadawurrung country and culture (3.30pm), try Vegemite painting, playdough, guitar art, have their faces painted or sit for portraits painted in Vegemite by Pyrenees artist Dawn Lim (all from 2.15pm).
Participating businesses include Luigi’s Gelatos, Kittelty’s Cakes, Red Duck Brewery and Mrs Baker’s Gin Still House.
Local musicians Mohave Echo and Mitchell Morrison perform from 4pm.
Beaufort Summer Fest is hosted by the Cyril Callister Foundation with funds from the National Australia Day Committee.
