Amazon has pulled the plug on its “Cruel Intentions” TV series, cancelling the small-screen adaptation of the iconic 1999 film after just one season.

Set at an elite college in Washington, D.C., the series followed two ruthless step-siblings determined to dominate the school’s cutthroat social hierarchy. When a brutal hazing incident threatened the entire Panhellenic system, the pair stopped at nothing to protect their power and reputation, even if it meant seducing the vice president’s daughter.

Premiering on the streamer in November 2024, the series reimagined Roger Kumble’s original movie, itself a modern retelling of the classic “Dangerous Liaisons.” However, the show struggled to make an impact, failing to crack Nielsen’s Top 10 Streaming charts and earning a dismal 24% score (3.7/10) on Rotten Tomatoes.

The cast included Sarah Catherine Hook, Zac Burgess, Savannah Lee Smith, Sara Silva, John Harlan Kim, Khobe Clarke, Sean Patrick Thomas, and Brooke Lena Johnson. The show was helmed by co-showrunners, writers, and executive producers Sara Goodman and Phoebe Fisher.

Despite its ambitious premise, Amazon’s iteration joins a history of unrealized efforts to capture the film’s dark allure on the small screen.
