Following the damage to statues along Prime Ministers Avenue last week, Ballarat Police haven’t ruled out whether the vandalism is politically motivated.
Between 2 and 5am on Thursday morning, the name plates of several statues were covered in spray paint, whilst the heads from busts of Kevin Rudd and Paul Keating were severed and stolen.
It’s estimated the damage is worth over $140,000.
Senior Sargeant Brad Hall is calling for anyone with CCTV footage at the time of the incident to contact police.
“We are interested in speaking to the occupants of a white Ute that was seen in the area at the time. Unfortunately, all we have at this point in time is it’s a white Ute with a canopy,” he said.
“That Ute contained a number of people that we’re keen to speak to.”
Anyone with information or CCTV footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
