Brother and sister duo Clancy and Opal Bird have signed with the Ballarat Miners for the upcoming NBL1 South season.
Clancy, who stands at 6’9″, has recently honed his skills at UC Riverside in the US, before playing for the Perth Redbacks in the NBL1 West.
Whilst 6’2″ Opal has represented Australia at the under-19 world championships and is currently signed with the Bendigo Spirit for the WNBL season.
“I’ve loved playing for Coach Kennedy Kereama in the WNBL and living in country Victoria,” Opal said
“So, when the opportunity came for me to play in Ballarat, it was the perfect fit. “
“The fact that my brother and I can play for the same club before I head to the US for college, is a bonus too,” she said.
CEO of Basketball Ballarat, Nev Ivey, says their signings align perfectly with their focus of being a family-friendly and welcoming club.
The 2025 NBL1 South season starts March 29th for The Miners at home against arch-rivals Bendigo.
