AFLW premiers pounce on talented Beaufort based Rebel

The head of women’s football at North Melbourne says the club is thrilled to have grabbed ‘elite-level slider’ Claire Mahony in the AFLW national draft.

The Greater Western Victoria Rebel and Beaufort local was chosen this week as pick number 36 overall.

“We feel really fortunate to get Claire at pick 36,” said Erin Lorenzini.

“Excellent hands, elite level skills for a big player, she’ll come in and fit really well in our group.”

“We expect her to work really hard, but she’s a really exciting talent for the future for us, no doubt,” she said.

In her first season in the Coates Talent League this year, the powerful tall kicked eight goals from 11 games and averaged 4.5 marks.
